Description

The Japanese Nakajima B5N2, Allied reporting name “Kate”, was an improved carrier-based torpedo bomber of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). Serving much of World War II, the Nakajima B5N2 also served as a high level bomber. Faster and more capable than its Allied counterparts, the B5N2 achieved combat successes during the early part of the Pacific War, when flown by well-trained IJN aircrews. The B5N2 also participated in well-coordinated attacks at the battles of Pearl Harbor, Coral Sea, Midway, and Santa Cruz Islands.

Manned by a crew of 3,  pilot, navigator/bombardier/observer, and radio-operator/gunner, the Nakajima B5N was equipped with racks to carry bombs or one Type 91 torpedo depending on its mission.
