Description

The American M60A3 is a second generation main battle tank (MBT) armed with the 105mm main gun, developed from the M48 Patton. Featuring a newly designed turret design with additional armour upgrades, and improvements to its electronics’ package, the M60 tank series became America’s primary main battle tank during the Cold War with production ending in 1983, with the M60A3 variant.

Mainly developed as a temporary measure whilst the XM1 Abrams MBT development was in an already well advanced phase, the M60A3 benefitted from great improvements in its sights and electronics over its A2 predecessor. Reaching the end of service with the United States army and marines, the M60A3 tank saw combat with various export nations such as Egypt, Turkey, and Lebanon.
