product description
The Leopard 1A5, Kampfpanzer Leopard, was a further improved version of the Leopard 1A1 German main battle tank (MBT). Designed by Porsche and manufactured by Krauss-Maffei in West Germany, the Leopard 1A1 entered service in 1965 deployed by the Bundeswehr, the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The Leopard 1A5’s retrofit version was upgraded with a new fire control system, effective night vision and all-weather capabilities camera, and more effective ammunition against deployed, advanced Soviet T-64B, T-72B and T-80B tanks. Later versions of the Leopard 1 MBT were relegated to secondary roles, replaced by the Leopard 2 tank.
The Leopard 1A1 alongside advanced variants quickly became the standard tank of many European militaries, as well as over a dozen of export countries worldwide, with field modified units being recently deployed on the Russo-Ukrainian War conflict.
