product description
The Vought F4U Corsair is a World War II American fighter aircraft. Primarily serving in great demand throughout WW2, the Corsair saw deployed combat in the Korean War as well. Mainly designed and operated as a carrier-based aircraft, entering service with the U.S. Navy and Marines in World War II, the F4U Corsair became one of the most capable dual role fighter and bomber of the war.
Regarded as the most formidable American fighter by the Japanese, the F4U achieved an 11:1 kill ratio with its six inverted gull wing-mounted .50 Cal M2 Browning machine guns. Upgraded Korean War F4U-2s featured an experimental conversion deployed into a carrier-borne, nightfighter. A starboard wing was fitted with an Airborne Intercept (AI) radome radar set, deleting one of the 12.7mm machine guns. Kicking off a legacy from 1940, the F4U Corsair witnessed the Korean War, as well as the French colonial wars in Indochina and Algeria.
