Description
The Volkswagen Type 87, Kommandeurswagen, is a World War II four-wheel-drive version of the Volkswagen Beetle. Produced by the Volkswagen plant, the Type 87 was primarily for high officers of the Wehrmacht.
The engine and drive-train, including geared wheel hubs, are the same as in the Volkswagen Type 166 Schwimmwagen amphibious vehicle. Around 564 vehicles of the Kommandeurswagen were produced throughout the Second World War with deployment across various fronts of the war.
