Description

The V-1 flying bomb was an early cruise missile, developed by Nazi Germany during WW2. The flying bomb was constructed mainly of welded sheet steel and wings built of plywood, powered by a simple pulsejet engine. Its guidance system used a simple autopilot aided by an odometer which proved accurate enough for area bombing.

Known to the Allies as the buzz bomb, it was first deployed for the terror bombing of London one week after the successful Allied landings in France.

More than one hundred V-1s were fired a day at southeast England, decreasing in number as s launch sites were overrun by Allied forces.
