USMC JLTV M1278A1 Heavy Guns Carrier (HGC)

The M1278A1 is the United States Marine Corps (USMC) Oshkosh Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV). The USMC JLTV is based on the newly developed Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle, prior by the US military to replace the fleet of ageing HMMWV or HUMVEE utility vehicles. The newly deployed JLTV’s main objective is to provide a higher level of protected mobility, in comparison to heavier M-RAP vehicles previously deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, improving survivability in missions.

The M1278A1 JLTV is armed with a modified shielded, roof mounted 12.7mm M2 heavy machine gun turret as a heavy guns carrier (HGC). The HGC JLTV can also be fitted with a 40mm Mk-19 automatic grenade launcher.

Additional JLTV variants are currently being developed to meet the increasing demands and threats on the modern battlefield.
