Description

The Uragan-1M is a modern Russian multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) system developed to replace both the ageing Uragan 220 mm and Smerch 300 mm rocket systems, due to increasing difficulties in maintaining and keeping the previous systems in operation. The new system, as with its predecessors, is extremely effective against area targets such as concentration of troops and armored vehicles, artillery batteries, and airfields.

The Uragan-1M is a multi-caliber system, capable of carrying 2 pods with various rockets. It can be either fitted with two launch tubes carrying six 300 mm or 15 220 mm rockets. The fully automated system can also fire all current Smerch and Uragan rockets up to ranges of 90 km, loaded with various warheads. Further developments to the system include the use of disposable rocket tubes, once all rockets are fired.

Operated by a crew of 3, the Uragan-1M can be deployed to fire in around 3 minutes requiring same time for withdrawal, avoiding counter battery fire.

The Uragan-1M is mounted on an armored cab, Belarusian MZKT-7930 8×8 high mobility wheeled chassis
