Description

The T-64BV is an upgraded version of the standard Soviet T-64 MBT developed by Kharkiv Armored Plant. Being a new generation of main battle tanks, the T-64 was armed with a 125mm main gun featuring a new type of autoloader, reducing the total weight and size of the tank with only 3 crew members required for operation.

Due to its higher mechanical complexity, the new Russian Ground Forces decided to standardize its tank fleet with the T-72 and the T-80 MBTs, while the T-64s were gradually put in reserve, handed over to other operating nations, or scrapped.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces later upgraded the standard soviet T-64 to the T-64BV variant. This new variant included an advanced thermal imaging system for all crew members, eliminating the need of the turret mounted Luna infrared searchlight. Additional protection was achieved by mounting Kontakt-1 explosive reactive armour (ERA) blocks, on the lower hull and turret, in addition to the Tucha smoke dischargers on the left of the turret.

Following the civil unrest in Ukraine, the T-64BV was deployed by both pro-Russian separatists, as well as the Ukrainian Armed Forces since 2014.

Trumpeter T-64BV kit contains 24 light grey plastic sprues, 1 clear sprue for the periscopes and vision ports, 3 PE frets, and a decal sheet. The kit features crisp details with its era blocks and turret’s cast texture and NBC shield. The tank’s intricate suspension system is combined with a link and length tracks assembly. The engine’s rear deck’s grilles can be further enhanced with the included PE parts. The separately moulded era blocks can be glued individually allowing for a damaged, worn-out look just as seen on the real tanks during the latest Russian offensive in Ukraine.

Two marking options are included for 2 unidentified units, one painted in overall Russian Green and one in a 3 tone winter camouflage pattern.
