Description

The latest Hanomag SS100 w/Vidalwagen and V-2 Rocket is a combination of 2 kits in 1/35 scale by Takom. The kit combines the Hanomag SS100 heavy tractor with the Vidalwagen carrier, and the V-2 rocket. The kit consists of 17 light grey sprues, rubber tires for the trailer and tractor, clear parts, and a PE fret. The kit features fine, crisp details with fully riveted panels on the V-2 rocket’s body and fins. The Hanomag SS100 features a complete driver’s cabin interior, engine assembly, gear box, transmission housing, and a finely detailed leaf spring suspension system.

Takom’s Hanomag SS100 w/Vidalwagen and V-2 Rocket depicts the transportation of an empty V-2 rocket to be lifted by the 16t Strabokran to be transported to its launcher, allowing the scale modeller to build an almost complete, ready diorama of German’s most feared World War 2 rocket.

The V-2 rocket was the world’s first ballistic missile developed by Germany during World War 2. Weighing in at over 12 tonnes, the missile required specially designed, heavy equipment. Such equipment included mobile carriers and erectors, due to the missile’s short range requiring close deployment to the specified target. The combination of these equipment allowed the fast, safe deployment and launch of the V-2 rocket from various sites, giving the crew ample time to leave the area prior to any return fire from the Allies.

The Wehrmacht Hanomag SS-100 heavy tractor multi-purpose vehicle was produced from 1936 to 1945 during World War 2. Originally manufactured a heavy agriculture tractor, it was quickly pressed into military service with both the Wehrmacht and the Luftwaffe, and became one of the most widely used heavy tractors in German military service. Powered by a 8550 cc 6-cylinder D85 diesel engine,  it could accommodate up to five passengers and a driver and supported a variety of supplemental equipment attached to the rear frame. Among other things, V-2 units used it to tow the Vidalwagen & Meillerwagen, which transported the empty V-22 rocket prior to fueling. The Vidalwagen was a strong and lightweight transport trailer, easily supporting the weight of the empty V2 rocket.  The Vidalwagen was used by the Germans to transport the V2 from the factory to field stores depot and then the trans loading point, where the weapon was hoisted onto the Meillerwagen for transport and launch.
