Description

The BTR-152 is a Soviet six-wheeled armored personnel carrier (APC) built on the chassis and drive train of a ZIS-151 utility truck. Armed with a front mounted 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun, the BTR-152 could carry up to 18 troops. Entering service in the 1950s, the BTR-152 formed the backbone of Soviet motor rifle battalions, until the development of the amphibious BTR-60 series during the 1960s. Primarily developed as an armored personnel carrier, the BTR-152 played various roles on the battlefield  ranging from command vehicles, to anti-aircraft vehicles armed with a Soviet ZPU-2, as well as artillery tractors.

Various waring factions modified the BTR-152 during the Lebanese civil war. Fitting a 23mm ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun inside the troop compartment, the vehicle was used in both fire support and anti-aircraft roles. The South Lebanese Army also modified the BTR-152 which was fitted with a crane inside a cut down troop compartment to be used as an armored recovery vehicle.
