Sd.Kfz.251/1 Ausf.D

The German World War II Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf.D was the late version, armoured personnel half-track carrier. Based on its earlier, unarmored Sd.Kfz. 11 predecessor, the  Sd.Kfz.251/1 was designed to transport Panzergrenadiers, German mechanized infantry, into the battlefield.

The Sd.Kfz. 251’s armour plates provided standard as well as armour piercing protection against standard bullets. Its open top design granted a substantial, tactical situational awareness and faster egress, action going out by the infantry, as well as hurl grenades and fire over the top of the fighting compartment while remaining under good cover.

The Sd.Kfz.251s were the most widely produced German half-tracks of the war, with at least 15,252 vehicles and variants produced by seven manufacturers.
