product description
The Sd.Kfz. 9, also known as FAMO, was a German half-track used in World War II. Seeing its widespread use, the Sd.kfz. 9 was the heaviest half-tracks built in Germany during the war years. Mainly deployed as a prime mover for very heavy towed guns, the Sd.Kfz. 9 also fulfilled the tank recovery vehicle roles as well as anti-air gun vehicles.
Equipped with a Maybach 12-cylinder, 10.8 litre gasoline engine, the FAMO would link with either 2 or 3 other recovery vehicles to recover or tow heavier vehicles like the Tiger I. Recovering vehicles would also require the need of towing aSd.Ah.116, the Type 116 Trailer, connected with the 18 ton heavy half track. This allowed for the transportation of 22-23 ton class tanks such as the Panzer III & IV tanks as well as other heavy artillery, and heavy machinery.
