The SA-2 Guideline, Russian S-75 Dvina, is a Soviet high-altitude air defence system. Built around a surface-to-air missile with command guidance, the Guideline became one of the most widely deployed air defence systems in history. Scoring its first kill with the shooting down of a Taiwanese Martin RB-57D Canberra over China, the SA-2 resumed its killing spree by downing a U-2 over Cuba, and was used extensively during the Vietnam War successfully defending Hanoi and Haiphong against US bombing. The Sa-2 missile system was also widely used in the Middle East, by Egypt and Syria, accounting for the majority of the downed Israeli aircraft during the various conflicts.
