Description

The Russian T-80U Main Battle Tank is a modified version of the T-80 MBT, which entered service with the Soviet Army in 1985. The T-80U has a cast turret with a welded lower hull. Compared to the earlier T-80B series, the armor protection capability of the T-80U has been greatly improved. The main armor is a composite armor of various materials, in addition to the “Kontact” Type-5 external reactive armor (ERA).

The tank is also equipped with an automatic fire suppression, and a nuclear biochemical protection system. The main weapon of the T-80U is a two-way stable 125mm smooth bore canon with an automatic loader’s system. The main gun can fire a variety of types of ammunition like armor-piercing projectiles, highly explosive rounds, as well as the M119M anti-tank missile (known as the AT-11 “sniper” in the West). The missile has a maximum range of 5 kilometers and can also attack low-altitude helicopters. The tank is also equipped with a 7.62 mm auxiliary machine gun in the turret and a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun on top of the turret.

This is the new Russian T-80U Main Battle Tank from Trumpeter, kit No:09525. This kit consists of 940+ parts, a slide mold turret and lower hull featuring refined details, individual track links, and a PE fret.
