T-72M1 Main Battle Tank

The T-72M1 was an export version of the third generation, Soviet T-72A main battle tank. Officially approved for export, various manufacturing countries such as Czechoslovakia and Poland produced T-72M1 tanks sold to multiple countries. The export version of the T-72M tank, contrary to belief upgraded with a composite turret and an additional 16mm steel plate, was not downgraded in comparison to the original Soviet tank.

Manned by a crew of 3, the T-72M1 was armed with a 125 mm smoothbore gun and was widely exported to various Middle Eastern countries such as Iraq, Libya, and Syria. The Iraqi Lion of Babylon saw extensive, unsuccessful combat against coalition forces during Operation Desert Storm, and later deployed with newly rebuilt Iraqi army forces alongside the various developed and modernised models of the same tank.
