Description

The BTR-80 8×8 armored personnel carrier is mainly used to transport troops on the battlefield and provide close fire support. It can also perform reconnaissance, combat support and patrol missions. The BTR-80 entered service with the Russian military in the late 1980s and often appeared in various military conflicts, including UN peacekeeping operations. The vehicle is still in production and is in service with troops in Russia and other countries.

The BTR-80 uses a larger chassis than the BTR-60/70 series, a large angled turret, and a more powerful diesel engine. The weapon used is the same as the BTR-60 and BTR-70, and a set of smoke bomb/grenade launchers are installed on the back of the turret. The tapered turret has been modified to achieve a larger elevation angle. The side shot hole has an improved design that uses a front side pointing to rotate a certain range. The BTR-80 also improves the design of the side passenger compartment doors on the BTR-60 and BTR-70. The current passenger compartment door has two upper and lower sections, the upper compartment door opens forward and the lower compartment door opens downwards. This design facilitates quick loading and unloading of cargo and personnel.
