Russian 2S34 Hosta Self-Propelled Howitzer/Mortar

The Russian 2S34 Hosta is a fully amphibious 120mm self-propelled gun/mortar based on the earlier 2S1 122mm Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer. While upgrading existing stocks of 2S1 Gvozdika, the newly released Hosta benefitted from the commonly shared hull, engine and drivetrain.

The same turret featured a longer 120mm main gun, with a larger square shaped muzzle brake, functional as both a howitzer and a mortar role. The upgraded turret also incorporated a semi-automatic loader system in loading the gun/mortar at a high angle of elevation. A wide range of both conventional and regular shells can be deployed at various ranges with a new Malakhit fire control system and a battlefield observation system. Self defense as well as survivability were also included by newly added smoke dischargers and a 7.62mm PKTM turret mounted machine gun.

Primarily upgraded and deployed by the Russian army, Hostas units were also sent towards the Russo-Ukrainian war.
