The Russian 2S1 “Carnation” is a 122mm self-propelled howitzer developed by the former Soviet Union. The chassis looks similar to the PT-76 amphibious tank, but was developed from the MT-LB armored transport vehicle with an installed 2A18 howitzer. “2S1” is the code name of the Russian Ministry of Defense and is commonly referred to as “carnation” in the Russian Army. The 2S1 is capable of amphibious operations requiring a small amount of preparations, by adopting body floating and crawling of the vehicle in water. The 2S1 can be equipped with a range of wide tracks, making it easy to pass through snow or swamps. The Russian 2S1 is also equipped with a NBC for nuclear and biochemical combat capabilities and night vision systems.
