Description
The American M966 is a member of the Humvee series of vehicles, armed with the BGM-71 TOW (“Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire guided) antitank missile. Serving as a replacement for various earlier utility and transport vehicles, the TOW missile carrier saw widespread deployment during the Iraq War. The TOW replaced much smaller missiles, while offering roughly twice the effective range in addition to a more powerful warhead.
The M966 TOW missile carrier proved to be highly effective in urban warfare during the Iraq War, with hastily up-armoured units due to the vulnerability of the unarmoured design.
Primarily used by the United States military, the M966 is also used by numerous export countries such as Lebanon.
