Description

The American M60A1 is a second generation main battle tank (MBT) armed with the 105mm main gun, developed from the M48 Patton. Featuring a newly designed turret design with additional armor upgrades, and improvements to its electronics’ package, the M60 tank series became America’s primary main battle tank during the Cold War with production ending in 1983, with the M60A3 variant.

Mainly deployed during the 1991 Gulf War, the US Marines’ M60A1s effectively defeated Iraqi armored forces, including T-72 tanks. Nicknamed M60A1 RISE Passive, the United States Marines’ tanks were outfitted with explosive reactive armor (ERA) on the turret and lower hull for additional protection.

Takom‘s M60A1 w/ERA & M9 Bulldozer contains 14 light grey plastic sprues, 1 clear sprue for the periscopes and headlights, a slide moulded chassis, a set of vinyl tracks, one PE fret, a cable wire, and a decal sheet. The kit features fine details as can be seen on the tank’s lower hull rear grills, cast numbers along with the rough steel cast texture. The kit also includes a complete, highly detailed M9 dozer blade assembly with hydraulic cylinders and lines, unit boxes at the front, and the rear mounted hydraulic tank.

The tank’s turret also features a subtle cast effect, along with cast numbers. The external ERA tiles and mounting brackets feature crisp details. The turret’s rear stowage basket is replicated using the included photoetched parts, which can be formed with an included bending jig. A single part main gun barrel is included, eliminating the need for sanding and filling.

4 marking options are included for 4 USMC vehicles during Operation Desert Storm, January 1991, either painted in overall sand color or desert MERDEC camo scheme.
