M26 Armored Tank Recovery Vehicle

The M26 was a 6×6 armored, heavy tank transporter and recovery vehicle first introduced during World War 2 in Europe 1944 into the US Army service. Nicknamed the Dragon Wagon, the M26 was a substantial upgrade over lighter tank transporters like the previous Diamond T M19. The Dragon Wagon was coupled with a 40-ton M15 trailer to pull and haul heavy tanks, during battlefield combat, with its armoured driver’s cab equipped with a combined pull of 60 tons two winches.

Both armoured and unarmored driver’s cabins were deployed on various battlefields throughout the final WW2 years, with surplus Dragon Wagons carrying oversize loads such as  transformers, locomotives and heavy equipment.
