Border Model’s latest Leopard 2 A5/A6 Main Battle Tank has set new standards for all previously released kits of Germany’s iconic modern tank. This newly tooled kit features crisp details, weld lines, and anti-skid surfaces on the lower hull and turret. Both the tracks and suspension units are fully workable after assembly. The kit comes with PE parts for the intake covers and various details, a copper cable is included to simulate the tow cable found on the tank, and a metal barrel for the 2A6 version!
It is to be noted that Border Model’s Leopard 2 A5/A6 is a 2in1 kit and can be built as either the 2A5, or 2A6 version while also providing 2 types of smoke dischargers’ configuration for the early/late model.
In 1995 the modernization of the Leopard 2 2A5 German main battle tank began to improve the current specs to further meet the increased requirements of future main battle tanks. The newer Leopard 2 A5/A6 tanks, received a new driver’s hatch providing better visibility while also re-enforcing the weakened areas in the lower hull.
The Leopard 2 A5/A6 benefited from a modernized turret equipped with a redesigned mantle cover, with the addition of frontal and side spaced armor.
Additional improvements included a new electric gun stabilizer, a new gunner’s sight, and the addition of the commander’s independent 2nd generation thermal imager, alongside a GPS navigation system.
The main difference of the new 2A6 model can be identified by the lengthened Rhl 120 / L55 main gun with a barrel length increased by almost 1.3 meters.
