Hawker Hurricane Mk.IID Tropical

The Hawker Hurricane Mk.IID is a British single-seat fighter in service during the 1930s and 1940s. Serving with the Royal Air Force (RAF), fighter and bomber role, the Hawker Hurricane witnessed all combat theatres during World War II. With high inflicted losses against the Luftwaffe, the Hawker Hurricane was later overshadowed by the Supermarine Spitfires during the Battle of Britain.

Specially modified tropical versions of the Hawker Hurricane, nicknamed :Flying Can Openers”, were fitted with Rolls-Royce engine dust filters along with pilots desert survival kit, including a bottle of water. The up armoured, heavier Hawker Hurricane Mk.IID were upgunned with two 40 mm anti-tank autocannons in a gondola styled wing pod. Each wing was supplied with 1 Browning wing machine gun loaded with tracer bullets for aiming purposes.
