German Sd.Kfz. 2 Kettenkraftrad (Mid-production)

The Sd.Kfz.2 is a half-track motorcycle better known as the Kleines Kettenkraftrad  (German for small, chains/tracks, and motorcycle). Shortened to Kettenkrad, the Kettenkraftrad was the first and only designed light, airborne troops’ tractor. Designed to be delivered by Junkers 52 aircrafts, the Kettenkrad was widely used by the military of Germany during the Second World War.

Being one of  the lightly mass-produced German vehicles, the Kettenkrad used its complex overlapped and interleaved road wheels just like almost all German military half-tracked vehicles of World War II.

Steering the Kettenkrad was accomplished by turning the handlebars, just like a bicycle for the front wheel to steer the vehicle. The motion of the handlebars would aid steering by engaging the track brakes to help make sharper turns, just like real tanks.

The Kettenkrad came with a special trailer that could be attached to it to improve its cargo capacity up to 350.
