Bergepanzer 3 “Buffalo” Armoured Recovery Vehicle

Bergepanzer 3 “Buffalo”, German for Büffel, is an armoured recovery vehicle (ARV) based on the highly reliable Leopard 2 main battle tank. The Buffalo ARV’s lower hull replaced the usual tank’s  turret by a newly designed upper hull structure, a crane boom, a winch, and a bulldozer blade for recovering damaged or immobilised tanks from the battlefield. The armoured top hull structure would also allow recovering damaged vehicles during the ongoing battlefield, with enhanced side modular blocks and slat armour.

Manned by a crew of 3, the Bergepanzer 3 upper hull is armed with a self defence MG3 machine gun.
