Description

The AMX-30 is a main battle tank designed by GIAT, which went into service with the French Army in 1966. Contrary to standard main battle tank designs and concept, the AMX-30 weighed 36 metric tons, sacrificing protection for increased mobility instead. The French believed that additional armor would bog down the maneuverability of the tank, while still lacking in protection against the latest anti tank threats. As such protection, instead, was provided by the speed and the compact design of the vehicle. The AMX-30’s armament consists of a main 105 mm main gun, and a 12.7mm coaxial machine gun. The AMX-30 was also exported and saw service in various countries such as Greece, Spain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Qatar.

Meng‘s AMX-30 French Main Battle Tank consists of 6 green plastic, 4 brown for the individual track links, 1 clear sprue for the periscopes and vision ports, 20 polythene caps, 1 slide molded chassis and turret, 1 photo etched fret, and a decal sheet for containing markings for two vehicles.

The kit features clean, crisp molded parts with fine attachment points for an easier parts’ cleanup. The workable suspension system also includes workable shock absorbers and torsion bars, along with the workable tracks for a varied terrain diorama. An assembly jig is included to assist the assembly and alignment of the tracks. The complex engine deck features an intricate assembly with its network of vents, grilles and mesh covers. The supplied photo etch fret provides parts for the mesh exhaust covers and other details.

The slide molded turret features crisp details with delicate parts for the side baskets, and includes a flexible vinyl dust cover behind the main gun’s mantle.

Two marking options are included for two vehicles, one in overall green and one in the standard NATO three tone camouflage.
