The russian 2S19 M2 Self Propelled Howitzer, “Msta-S”, is an upgraded and improved version of the 2S19 self propelled howitzer and was first shown at the 2013 Russia Arms Expo in the Russian city of Nizhny Tagil. Modifications included a new computerized fire control system for increased fire rate by automated loading, laying and retargeting, Nakidka radar-absorbent camouflage which reduces the vehicle’s thermal signature, and digital mapping to quickly identify terrain enabling combat tasks to be performed more rapidly and effectively. The 2S19M2 weighs in excess of 43tons, harboring a multi fuel diesel engine rated at 780hp, with a maximum speed of 60 KM/H. The firing range ranges between 20-29km depending on the weapon’s load.
